See you there!

Brisbane here we come!

Get ready Toowoomba Physie! I am excited to announce that Brisbane Physie and Dance will be hosting an interclub event on July 29th and we are invited! It is certain to be a great day packed with performances and competitions. There will be a professional photographer and canteen run throughout the day. I encourage all of you to come and join in the fun!

More details will be sent via email shortly!

Physie Etiquette

When participating in any sport or hobby there are usually certain rules which provide order for the safety and enjoyment of its participants.

Toowoomba Physie and Dance is introducing its students to physie etiquette so that we can all enjoy our time at physie!

Instead of a list of rules the girls are encouraged to remember one.

BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS

That’s it! We then encourage the girls to think of the ways they can show that consideration. On our class list we have come up with the following:

WE CAN BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS

by

coming to class on time

going to the toilet before class

listening to your teacher

not interrupting or talking over anyone else

not running around during class or laying on the floor unless this is a part of a game or routine

not touching things that don’t belong to you

The girls are encouraged to think of their own ways to show consideration for others so that we can all have fun!

Keeping Warm

With only a few weeks until winter it’s time to prepare for the cooler months.

As mentioned in the post “Warming up and Stretching” our body temperature and muscles need to get warm to reduce the risk of injury. During the winter months the risk becomes even greater but there are things you can do to reduce the possibility of injury.

  • Arrive to class a few minutes earlier than usual to warm up.
  • Wear extra clothing. Layers are great! A light tracksuit, jacket, leggings or leg warmers can be removed after you’ve warmed up.
  • Stretch!

After a long day at school it is a good idea to keep your body re-fueled with some healthy snacks such as fruit, vegetables, nuts or trail mix. Be sure to bring a bottle of water (or 2) to class. The aim is not to quench your thirst but to prevent it by keeping well hydrated. Remaining hydrated is not only a great way to prevent muscle cramps but it also lubricates your joints.

At 7pm on Saturday June 2 you are invited to a coffee and dessert evening at South Toowoomba Baptist Church. Tickets are $10 and will benefit both Toowoomba Physie and Dance (in saving for team leotards) and Destiny Rescue in raising much needed funds to support their mission. On top of this, jewellery will be available to purchase on the night! These beautiful yet reasonably priced items are perfect gifts to put aside for Christmas or birthdays.

Please invite your family, friends and neighbours for a night of fun!

For further information or to order your tickets please contact Tamara on 0466464670 or 46135395.

Physie: a team sport!

Did you know that there are many ways to participate in physie? You can come to classes once or twice a week to keep fit and make new friends! You can also participate in competitions. But further than that you can compete as an individual and/or in a team! There are two main types of competitions in physie. The first is called “Champion girl” (or “Champion Lady”. Yes, even some of the mum’s and Grandma’s have a go!) In Champion girl you enter as an individual competitor. Of course, your friends are right there with you but you get to show your very best physie to the judges with the chance of winning an award for your personal physie! In this kind of competition each girl wears her leotard of choice from the APDA styles and colours and even chooses the hairstyle that would suit her “look”.

Teams, on the other hand, is a competition where 8 girls from the one club and age group, present their routines with the intention of being uniform. In a team competition all 8 girls wear the same black leotard, have the same hairstyle and go on the floor together at the one time. As they perform their routines they aim to be synchronised in their timing and positions.

Girls can participate in both champion girl AND team competitions each year when there are enough girls to form a team.

A whole lotta Lycra!

Exciting news! Our leotards have arrived to try on!

For those girls interested in competing in APDA competitions there is the opportunity to purchase an APDA leotard (or two). These are compulsory if you choose to compete at a inter club, state or national level. The designs and colour samples are released early in the year followed by a leotard try-on day (which is on this Saturday April 14th from 8am!) I can’t show you the leotards completely but I can tell you that both the colours and designs are bold, striking and flattering!

Not only did the leotards arrive but we are preparing to design and select colours for the club tracksuit. This will be a wonderful way for club members to be proud of being a part of Toowoomba Physie and Dance. They also are a practical way to keep warm on those chilly Toowoomba months coming and going from physie classes. For those interested in competitions, tracksuits will be recommended for girls representing the club.  But more on that later!

Term 2 kicks off!

Classes recommence next week  Tuesday April 17th! Invite your friends for their free lesson. If they register and sign up for the term your fees for the term are 1/2 price!

8 – 10am on Saturday will be leotard try-on day and at 3:30pm come and join us at picnic point for a BYO BBQ!

See you soon!

Warming up and Stretching

When we warm up we are literally warming our body temperature and muscles. It is important to warm up before we stretch (and dance) to prevent injury.

There are many websites with information about warming up and stretching.

For some important rules when stretching click here.

For some pictures of basic stretches click here.

For parents of preschoolers looking for some creative ideas click here. (You’ll recognise some of these from class)

5-8 year olds

The 5 – 8 year class commences on Tuesday 14th at 3:30pm and then Saturday 18th at 9am. During term 1 the hour’s class will be used to warm-up, teach the syllabus and learn correct technique and physie positions as well as strengthening and stretching exercises. Once your child is enrolled in the 5 year old class there will be more structure and discipline involved than was previously in the preschoolers 3-4 year olds class. However, there will be lots of fun, great music and friends!

If your child turns 5 before the 1st of September then she may attend the 5 year old class. If she turns 5 after this date she can still participate in the 3-4 year old class until she is ready. If you are at all unsure where your child would best be suited, either because of age , ability or readiness, please contact me to discuss this .

The routines (or the syllabus) your child will learn will be studied for the duration of the year. It will be refined and practised. Once the routines are mastered your daughter may like to participate in local or state competitions, she also might like to participate in displays (like the carnival of flowers parade in Spring) or perhaps our end of year Christmas concert!

If you are unable to attend our information day, you are welcome to come along to the next class and find out more about Physie!
